Make Money Blogging with Amazon

Amazon was one of the pioneers in affiliate marketing – establishing it’s Associates program in 1996 - and they continue to be the innovative leader that other affiliate programs try to emulate.

In Their Words

With Amazon’s leadership status in Internet e-commerce, Amazon Associates have many ways to make money: not only will you earn money on the sale of books, music, and DVDs, but also on toys, electronics, kitchen, apparel, jewelry, and more. The Amazon.com Associates program differentiates itself from other affiliate programs by offering millions of products to choose from, industry leading conversion rates and competitive advertising fee rates that produce more money for our Associates.

In My Words

The following review of the Amazon Associates program should help to convince you to strongly consider whether or not it should be apart of the monetizing strategy for your blog. Not because I am a particularly convincing writer, but because their program sells itself. Heck, I’m an affiliate with them.

5 Reasons why Amazon Associates should be apart of your monetization strategy.

1. Getting started is easy. Amazon Associates is one of the easiest ways to make money with your blog. You simply sign up at the Amazon Associates website (it’s free), choose which method you want to use to add Amazon products to your blog, and you’re ready to go. You actually get access to their entire catalog of products!

2. Large variety of marketing tools.

  • Banner Ads (Amazon recently came out with a pretty cool automated, rotating banner.
  • Text links (even creat your own)
  • Product links (send your readers to any Amazon product page you want)
  • Widgets (product slideshows, flash media, generate your own

(*below are a couple examples)

3. Compensation choices. Amazon offers its members two choices for getting paid.

 4. Automated Advertising. If you would rather put things on auto pilot, you can select their contextual advertising option. This will automatically generate ads based upon the content of your blog. You can even set it to just show Amazon’s best selling products. The choice is yours.

5. Performance Tracking. Members can track the performance of their ad campaign, including isolating individual advertisements by ID, which really helps to narrow down which ads are working and which are not.

Drawback(s)

Compared to many other affiliate programs, Amazon’s commission structure is a little on the light side. Although they do have a tiered option that rewards you with a higher commission when you sell more, the lack of double-digit percentages is a little disappointing (they absolutely do not need to increase this either, as their overall program is enticing enough). However, if your blog gets alot of traffic, you can make good money with Amazon Associates.

In Other Words

Amazon’s trend-setting expertise in affiliate marketing, access to their ridiculously large inventory of products, and innovative marketing tools make it a great fit for many bloggers looking to make some money. Whether you have a blog about food recipes, golfing or the wonders of basket weaving, Amazon has something for you.
